Fret Not

“Fret not yourself; it tends only to evil.”
 - Psalm 37:8
This Psalm calls for believers to live trusting, “unfretful“ lives before the Lord, even if the wicked around us may prosper. The righteous will be tempted to do two things: be anxious (fret) or become angry (wrath). But these responses will just make us lose our peace as believers. The call from God here is to let this tension drive us more into the presence of the Lord, to “be still before the Lord“ 37:7, where we will find an invisible abundance and comfort.

Lord, even if I see others around me prosper who are unbelievers, don’t let my spirit be eaten up by envy. Help me not to fret, but to know that You know best, and to find my deepest riches in my relationship with You. In Your Precious Name, Amen.
